Local Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Officers say they were notified late on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then found numerous other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police state preliminary tests show the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; authorities are presently not cognizant of any injuries in connection with the event," they added.
City officials announced they were working "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the community for tips.
A high-ranking political figure said the attack rendered him speechless and had to be resolved quickly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he stated on online, mentioning the death of nine people by a gunman targeting people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
